I'm going to disagree with the other reviews in that it may not be the best at in depth coverage ,but for me and other beginners it lays out the basics better than Saschas' book which drops you straight in the middle of a seasoned capture ones understanding of the software and God forbid the "Greman" books.
When are the German's going to translate and start making money? That's the steep learning curve of Saschas' book Forget the spelling errors Capture One Pro 12 is roughly 5 years out of date.
It is not helpful today as the Capture One Pro software sold today is at least version 21 which is nine versions newer. One person found this helpful. I made a mistake ordering this book - wanted to read up on Capture One - thought this might be a good way to figure out if it would be a fit for me.
Well I was only 10 pages in and realized that this book was never proofread for serious grammatical and spelling errors. Don't bother with this one.
If I could give it zero stars I would. This book was a disappointment. It's poorly written, images are too small to provide any information. This book should have been proofread; there are numerous at least too many for me mistakes Overall it provided little useful information.
Who on earth edited this book? Holy smoke. A 10 year old kid has better English. What a waste! Poorly written, for a few dollars more get a professionally written document from Gumroad.
Helping to improve contrast and definition, Clarity is a tool that enhances local and micro contrast values without destroying highlight and shadow details while Structure helps to add definition to fine details. Healing and Cloning processes can be used in conjunction with layers by creating specific layers to remove unwanted elements from your image. A Heal Layer blends with the surroundings of the targeted area while a Clone Layer will specifically clone in a source area to the targeted area.
Shadow and Highlight Recovery tools help to maintain a long tonal scale with rich, natural colors and a longer apparent dynamic range. Styles and Presets can be applied to images to achieve a consistent and controlled look, ranging from built-in styles packs to custom-built presets to imported third-party styles. In addition to traditional RGB and individual color curves, there is also a Luma Curve for adjusting luminosity values without affecting hue and saturation.
Additional curves can also be used to fine-tune the look of your file, including Film Curves for producing distinct effects. Feather Mask allows you to easily soften the edges of a mask after drawing it and avoids the need to redraw masks through the use of a slider to control feathering.

Asset Management Important for organizing small batches of images or libraries of thousands of files, a variety of asset management tools helps to keep files sorted and accessible regardless of how large your image collection is.
Full support is available for reading layered PSD files to enhance a workflow that uses both Capture One and Photoshop. Catalog and Sessions offer two means for working with Capture One, and offer benefits to users with large-scale catalogs as well as those with fewer images.
Catalogs are well-suited to those with large image libraries, and help when using Capture One as your main, standalone image editing tool. Sessions, conversely, are better designed for day-to-day jobs and smaller image batches. Images can be filtered globally or specific filters can be used independently to create Smart Albums that organize images based on various specified criteria.
Keywords can be added and removed from images using simple clicks. Keyword libraries can also be created to manage different lists of sorted keywords for greater efficiency. It also just looks better — almost on par with Photoshop which is where I usually do my more difficult spot healing. If you send your work off to an editor or work with a team, Capture One Pro has an annotations feature that makes collaboration much easier.
Definitely helpful for collaborative editing or sending an image with notes off to a client. Capture One allows you to organize according to your photography sessions instead of of using the catalog. Many say that Capture One actually outperforms Lightroom in terms of both speed and stability. There are several Styles available by famous photographers, helping you emulate their color grading. One of the huge benefits of using Fujifilm X-series camera are the built-in film simulations like Acros, Classic Chrome, Velvia etc.
Capture One 12 now adds the ability to change the starting point of your editing to one of the film simulations, as Curves within the Base Characteristics Tool. There are a few places where Capture One falls short.
For those of us who use them regularly, this could be an issue. Into Nik or Topaz filters? No go. Use any of the fantastic portrait packages out there? Too bad. Capture One only has a few third-party plugins and no ability to do HDR or panoramas. No fun. One thing new in version 12, though, though, is export plug-in support.
The history panel is a tool I use often. While Capture One lets you undo edits and easily reset adjustments more easily than Lightroom, actually , not having a history panel really cramps my style.
There are workarounds, like creating a number of clone variants, etc. One of these is that when I rename a file, it moves to somewhere else in the catalog, which can get annoying when trying to compare a series of photos.
This bothers me, as it forces me to go to another program if I need one. There are also no online sharing options, which will definitely affect some folks. The bottom line? Studio photographers might also choose to organize by sessions rather than the catalog. Also, if you need precise and powerful keywording options, Lightroom has this part nailed. However, you are able to buy Capture One Pro 12 outright, which is more than we can say for Lightroom….
